Welcome to Good Movers Moving Co. We’re excited to have you on the team. This handbook serves as your guide to understanding our company policies, expectations, benefits, and values. Employment Basics

Employment Classification

All movers are hired as W-2 employees. You are not an independent contractor. This means you are eligible for legal protections under California labor law, including workers’ compensation, unemployment, and paid rest periods.

Pay and Benefits

Hourly Pay

  • Standard Rate: $40/hour

  • Overtime Pay: Time and a half for hours over 8/day or 40/week per CA law.

Pay Schedule

  • Pay is issued weekly on Fridays via direct deposit.

  • Paper pay stubs are available upon request.

Breaks

  • You are entitled to a 10-minute paid rest break for every 4 hours worked.

  • You are entitled to an unpaid 30-minute meal break for shifts over 5 hours.

Scheduling and Attendance

Work Hours

Most moves are scheduled between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Start times vary by job.

Availability

You are expected to confirm your availability at least one week in advance. Same-day call-offs are for emergencies only and must be reported to a supervisor immediately.

Punctuality

Show up on time, ready to work. Chronic lateness or absenteeism may lead to reduced hours or termination.

Job Duties and Expectations

Your Role

As a mover, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Loading and unloading furniture and boxes

  • Safely driving (if applicable) and handling equipment

  • Disassembling and assembling furniture

  • Wrapping and padding items to prevent damage

  • Interacting with customers respectfully and professionally

Appearance

  • Wear clean company-provided shirts and appropriate work shoes.

  • Maintain good personal hygiene.

Conduct

  • Be respectful to customers and coworkers.

  • No foul language, roughhousing, or smoking on job sites.

  • Keep phones put away unless needed for job tasks or emergencies.

Safety Policy

General Safety

  • Always lift with your legs and use moving equipment.

  • Use gloves, back braces, or any PPE provided.

  • Report any injury or unsafe condition immediately.

Damage and Claims

  • If damage occurs, report it to the supervisor immediately.

  • Never argue with customers—refer any disputes to your team lead.

Discipline and Termination

Grounds for Disciplinary Action

  • Repeated tardiness or no-shows

  • Theft, dishonesty, or violence

  • Working under the influence of drugs or alcohol

  • Harassment or unsafe conduct

Discipline may involve warnings, suspension, or immediate termination, depending on the severity.
